It looks like a small globular cactus in miniature. Its barrel is characterized by a particular cresting at the apex, which makes each plant unique and highly appreciated by green collectors from all over the world. It has numerous tubercles, laden with white downy areoles, from which dense and small ash-white-gray spines emerge. Due to this characteristic, it takes on the more common name of "crested ping-pong ball". In July, it blooms with small pale pink flowers from its downy apex.
