The monstruos form of this cacti presents geometrical anomalies, for example asymmetrical bumps or absence of thorns, different for every single specimen, to the point of making each one of them unique and, as a consequence, highly sought after by collectionists. In its regular form it is a globular cactus with a solitary posture that, with time, tends to cluster. Its stem, of an opaque light green, presents numerous well furrowed ribs, equipped with sparse withis, slightly downy areolas. The thorns are short, of a cream-brownish color, if not completely absent. The blooming season is during spring and summer, when, on top of long stems generated from the areolas, bloom its enormous nocturnal flowers, with a more or less intense pink color.
