The crested shape of this cactus presents the very particular fan crest as it will never be found identical in different plants, making each of them unique and for this reason much appreciated by collectors. In its normal form it is a cactus with a globose shape that with time becomes cylindrical. Its light green stem is equipped with tuberculate ribs and on them are the white and fluffy areoles. Several radial and central spines emerge from the latter: the first whitish with brown tips while the central ones are more robust and have a darker shade on the tips. In mid-spring E. oxygona f. crested gives beautiful funnel-shaped flowers which are large, pink and slightly scented.
