This globe-shaped cactus becomes cylindrical over time and is among the easiest to grow. Its stem of intense green color is equipped with tuberculate ribs above which are the white and woolly areoles. From the areoles come out its radial and central spines; the former are numerous of whitish color with brown tips, while the central ones are less numerous and more robust with darker tips. During growth this cactus can reach 30 cm in height. Its beautiful funnel-shaped flowers bloom at the apex of the stem in mid-spring, are very large, pink in color and have a slight scent.
