Echinofossulocactus pentacanthus

It is a small cactaceae plant with a solitary habit, which can occasionally cluster at the base. Its stem, light green, tending to olive green, concave at the apex, has multiple slender, well furrowed ribs of a very wavy shape, equipped with white downy areoles. It takes the name of 'pentacanthus', which means “five spines”, as it typically has five spines for each areole. The radial spines are thin, of a white color, while the central ones are brownish-yellow, longer and stiffer, which tend to grow upwards. Flowering occurs at the apex of the plant, generating small, funnel-shaped flowers of a pale pink color with purple central streaks.
