Description:

The crested shape of this plant is quite rare, characterized by a fan arrangement, different from the other genera, as it is more compact, but equally fascinating and particular. In its normal form it is a solitary globular cactus, slightly depressed at the apex, particularly appreciated all over the world for its remarkable ornamental abilities. In fact, it has extremely peculiar characteristics, starting from the very thick and wavy ribs, to which showy flat and long spines are added, that cover a large part of the body with their colors, ranging from white to brownish. Between spring and summer, showy funnel-shaped flowers bloom from the flattened apex which, although not very large, strike the attention with its pink and purple streaked colors, pleasantly contrasting with the dark green color of the plant!

Plant care:

It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in winter.

The best soil is a well-draining and porous one, even better if further enriched with 50% or more of inert materials such as pumice, lapilli or clay.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
