Also called "Rainbow cactus", because with the prolonged exposure to the direct sun, it takes on shades, ranging from pink to red and purple. E. rigidissimus subs. rubrispinus is of a columnar shape and has combed red-white spines. In spring, at the apex of the plant, large and beautiful bright magenta flowers bloom. It is a delicate cactus, because it is sensitive to rotting and for this reason it is not very easy to grow.
