Its name derives from ancinet Latin and refers to the peculiarity for which this cactus is easily distinguishable, the presence of soft "woolly thorns". The stem tends to become cylindrical with growth, of a beautiful emerald green furrowed by very shallow ribs and as many tubercles. From rather large areoles, light and thin radial spines branch off, short, combed and arranged around the areola itself. The central thorns, tending to brown, are instead long, soft and very thin, similar to hair. When the plant reaches maturity they tend to disappear, however during growth they are essential to allow the cactus to capture any possible droplet of water. In full spring, Echinocereus primolanatus will delight you with its huge flowers with notes of pink and fuchsia, sometimes enriched with whitish shades that make them truly incomparable!
