The monstruos form of this cacti presents geometric anomalies, for example asymmetric bumps or absence of thorns, different in every single specimen, to the point of making every single one of them unique and beloved by collectors. This cacti was found for the first time near Cameron County, Texas (USA), by the collector Steven Brack. In its regular form E. pentalophus has a cylindrical shape; it is made up of erect, narrow, dark green stems which branches at the base. It has tuberculous ribs equipped with small and sparse rounded areoles, from which erupts few whitish thorns, straight, short and star arranged. During spring it bloom funnel shaped flowers of a marvelous and showy magenta color.
