It is a cactaceae with a solitary habit that can also cluster at the base. The cylindrical stem, of a bright green color, has irregular tuberculate ribs, equipped with well-spaced round areoles. Its characteristic twisted and flattened spines, which are of an untypical yellowish-white color, emerge from these areoles.
