This cactus exemplar native to Arizona and Mexico, is very appreciated for its appearance. Its cylindrical green stem is equipped with tuberculate ribs, above which are spaced the white and fluffy areoles. The stems reach 20 cm long and 1 m wide. The spines come out from the areoles; the radial ones are white while the central ones are brown and more robust and can reach 10 cm in length. This cactus is very appreciated during flowering, in spring: its funnel-shaped flowers bloom at the apex of the stem; the colors vary from magenta to purple with darker lines and stripes in the central part and large ( up to 7 cm long and 9 cm in diameter ) .
