It is a particular succulent plant that grows in nature on the island of Santa Caterina in California, forming extensive green silvery carpets. Its erect and white leaves are covered with a white powder (pruinescence) that protects the plant from harmful UV rays. With the prolonged exposure to the direct sun or during cool autumn, the color of the leaves turn pink. In late spring its many attractive yellow flowers bloom from a long stalk.
