Description:

Pleasant succulent, considered perhaps the most renowned of the genus Drosanthemum, particularly appreciated for the abundant inflorescences on the notes of a lively fuchsia-purple. Formed by slender and not very long stems, it is equipped with cylindrical leaves, with triangular and extremely fleshy section, whose epidermis is a pleasant pale opaque green, made almost silvery by the thick down that covers it: this very down, besides conferring the Latin name "shaggy" to the species, it is probably the cause of the much better known common name with which the succulent is known, that is "Beard of Jupiter". Particularly used as wallpaper to cover large horizontal spaces such as walls or rock gardens, D. hispidum can also be placed in hanging pots or on shelves, from which its drooping posture will be fully manifested with beautiful colorful waterfalls. From late spring this succulent will decorate your environments with showy daisies flowers, consisting of yellow center and bright petals of a beautiful deep purple, able to multiply quickly when the plant is exposed in sunny areas and poor soils, up to constitute scenic bushes full of inflorescences: a show that will leave you speechless!

Plant care:

It prefers positions in full sun, or however strongly luminous.

It loves warm or mild climates, never less than about 10 C, therefore in winter it is advisable to place it sheltered.

In summer it is preferable to water with regularity and moderation, only when the soil is completely dry. In winter it is advisable to thin out watering, moistening only slightly the substrate.

It is optimal a strongly draining substrate, consisting of specific soil for cacti to which is added a part of pumice or sand to make it more porous: the poorer and draining the soil, the more flowers will produce succulent!

It does not need frequent fertilizations, it will be sufficient to add liquid fertilizer to the water of the waterings once a year.
