Succulent plant with a shrubby habit which reaches a maximum of 60 cm in height, with its densely branched stems adorned with very fleshy leaves, generally obovate and of a beautiful bright green. The main feature of this plant is already mentioned in its name which comes from ancient Latin, literally meaning "very dark purple". In fact, in the middle of summer when the sun's rays are very strong, Crassula atropurpurea adapts to the environment by "hiding" the chlorophyll inside the foliage and therefore changing the surface color from green to an intense purplish-red, a technique that allows the plant to protect itself from the heat and still maintain the necessary energy supply. With this stratagem not only it adapts to the climatic conditions, but takes on extremely ornamental and appreciated colors, which contrast with the small white-yellowish inflorescences.
