Coryphantha neglecta

The name of the species derives from the Latin and literally means “neglected, forgotten”, referring to the fact that initially it was not named as an autonomous species. It is a wonderful spherical cactus that does not exceed 6-7 cm in diameter and remains slightly depressed at the apex, of a beautiful opaque dark green jagged by perfectly symmetrical and rather protruding conical tubercles. Double spines emerge from yellowish areoles: the radial ones are arranged radially almost to surround the stem, they are thin, pale yellow and very straight; the central spines are instead single and sometimes absent, dark brown, longer and more robust, facing outwards. At the apex of the cactus there is a white down characteristic of the genus Coryphantha between the spines which tend to be longer and pointing upwards: in the middle of the latter, striking funnel-shaped yellow flowers with brown central stripes will blossom, as extravagant as beautiful!
