It is a cactacea with a slow-growing columnar habit, which over time may cluster at the base. The dull green epidermis has multiple well-defined ribs, on which round areoles emerge. It is equipped with strong blackish-yellow spines. Its funnel-shaped inflorescences are of a yellow color.
