C. smaragdiflorus is an exemplar of a climbing cactus with a cylindrical stem that expands horizontally by accessing. Very similar to C.baumannii for its appearance, it differs from the latter for its shorter thorns and darker color. It has a bright green stem and has ribs on which are noticeable the yellow and woolly areoles. Radial and central spines emerge from the latter: the radial are yellowish in colour while the central ones are more robust, longer and brown. During the flowering period, C. smagrasdiflorus gives us beautiful bell-shaped flowers, with petals in the shape of scales, pink with green tones on the tips. Its name derives, in fact, from the Latin: "smaragdinus" means emerald green and "Florus" means flowers, in relation to its flowers with emerald green tips.
