Cleistocactus baumannii f. variegata

This Cleistocactus specimen features yellowish hues due to a lack of chlorophyll in the epidermis. The variegations are never identical on two different plants, even of the same species, making each one unique! In its normal form, C. baumannii is a beautiful cactus, consisting of a columnar stem, sometimes slightly branched at the base, upright and with a diameter of a few centimeters, but in nature it can reach up to 2 meters in height! It has numerous, faint longitudinal ribs, with brown or black areoles that almost disappear as it grows; from these stems emerge sparse, thin yellow spines of varying lengths. In summer Cleistocactus baumannii will delight you with its wonderful, rather long, tubular, red-fuchsia flowers with an apical opening full of very thin, bright petals!
