Cissus

Cissus

Its name derives from Greek and refers to the 'ivy' by which it was formerly called, due to the climbing characteristics it has, similar to many species of this genus. They range from climbing plants to plants with massive ornamental caudex, from those with simple and shiny leaves to the toothed rich in veins ones. Any variety is perfect for decorating small spaces if pruned, are excellent for hanging pots due to their drooping and suggestive stems or even supported to make them clinge: these options makes the plant perfect for any type of environment. This succulent symbolizes fidelity and the wish for a happy future, therefore it’s a perfect gift for any occasion; in the past it was also considered a symbol of joy, since it was believed that the crown of the god Bacchus was composed with its leaves. Here are some tips for its cultivation: Cissus likes full sun or partial shade, as long as it still receives a lot of light during all seasons. Keep it at mild temperatures and above, never below 6 ° C. It is recommended to place it in sheltered and airy places during the winter. Water moderately, only when the soil is completely dry. Once a week in spring and summer, every two months in autumn and suspend in winter. A well-draining and mineral-rich substratum is optimal, like a soil suitable for cactaceae, to which pumice can be added. They do not need frequent fertilizations, it will be sufficient to dilute fertilizer with watering once a year.
