Cereus aethiops

Beautiful cactaceae from South America, which in nature develops a columnar stem, very branched at the base, even 2 meters high. It has rather ample and tuberculate ribs along which, from small roundish areoles, come out thorns even 2 cm long of a characteristic black color (hence the name of the species which in Greek means just "burnt, blackish"). The dark shade of the showy spines contrasts pleasantly with the blue-violaceous epidermis of the stem, for an absolutely unique final chromatic effect. Another characteristic for which C. aethiops is particularly loved are undoubtedly its gigantic flowers: funnel-shaped, have pink-violet outer petals, the inner ones lighter and can reach even dimensions of 22 cm, a real jewel of nature!
