Calibanus hookerii

A caudiciform plant (caudex) of a very slow growth, owes its name (Hookeri) to the British botanist Sir William J. Hooker. Its caudex, of a globular shape, is slightly depressed at the apex, has light tuberculous grooves and, in its natural habitat, can reach up to 5 meters in diameter. At the apex it generates long and thin leaves with a rough and bristly surface, which form a large tuft. During the flowering period it generates numerous stems covered with many small, creamy white, slightly translucent flowers.
