Description:

This wonderful specimen of Begonia is native to the tropical forests of Brazil. It is highly appreciated for its particular appearance; its beautiful flowers that bloom throughout the year and the fact that it can be placed both inside the house and outside if the temperature is above 15 degrees. It has a stem like 'bamboo (which reaches up to 2m in height) and ends at the top with leaves and flowers. The foliage is particular, oval/ round with slightly serrated margins; the dark green leaves are covered by small white dots, which create a pleasant contrast with the green and give the plant an attractive appearance. The inflorescences have a unique shape to say the least: the flowers have a cluster and hanging bearing, with delicate coral-colored petals, which bloom on the branches and give the plant an eccentric appearance. It is commonly called Coral begonia or Coralline of Lucerne precisely because of the coral shades of its inflorescences. B. 'Tamaya' is suitable for a bright and airy indoor environment but also outside with a temperature above 15 degrees.

Plant care:

It requires an exposure in a rather shady place: it is advisable to expose this plant to direct sunlight only during the cooler hours, for the rest of the day it requires to be placed in a bright location avoiding direct sun rays.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

It requires a lot of water during the hot periods since it does not stagnate water in the roots. On the other hand, in winter, when it loses its leaves and enters the vegetative rest, it is advisable to keep it dry.

A suitable substrate for cactaceae is an optimal solution, as long as it is well draining.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
