Description:

Acanthocalycium thionanthum is a small-sized cactus that naturally grows on South American mountain slopes. Its stem, which can be spherical or cylindrical depending on the age of the specimen, is of a light green or green-blue color. It has downy areoles on the ribs of the plant, from which radial and central spines emerge, which are of a color ranging from white to black. In Greek, 'thionanthum' means 'sulphurous yellow flowers', referring to its splendid bell-shaped flowers of a sulphurous yellow or lemon yellow color (though might be also pink, red, or orange).

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light all year around, preferably at the direct sun rays.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures but it also resist at low temperature if compleatly dry,

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer, and reduce the frequancy to once every two months in autumn and winter.

A specific soil for cacti, which is very well draining is an optimal solution.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
