The variegated shape of this cactus presents yellowish shades or spots in the exact points where there is lack of chlorophyll; such streaks will never be the same in plants making each one unique in its kind and for this reason much sought after by collectors. In its normal form it is a perennial cactus with a solitary posture covered by multiple conical tubercles characterized by a thick white lint. The stems are enclosed by long and slightly curved yellowish spines. It blooms in mid-spring, covering itself with small flowers that vary from a pale pink to red color.
