The variegated form of this plant has unmistakable yellow spots in the areas, where there is a lack of chlorophyll; each specimen have them always different, which makes each cactacea truly unique. It is a globular cactus, with the depressed apex, which forms many suckers. Its peculiarity is the dark, almost black epidermis, covered with thin spines of a light color. The flowers of L. nigrispina are large and very showy, the color varies from yellow to deep pink. Synonym: Echinopsis ancistrophora subs. arachnacantha.
