The variegated shape of this cactus presents yellowish shades in places where there is a lack of chlorophyll; such spots will never be identical in different plants making each of them unique in its kind. In its normal form it is a small cactus with a slightly flattened spherical shape that, with the passage of time, turns into new suckers. L. Arachnacantha is also known as Echinopsis ancistrophora Subs. arachnacantha. Its stem is equipped with tuberculate ribs above which there are spines similar to spiders. It blooms from spring to summer, generating very showy funnel-shaped flowers of considerable size, often larger than the plant itself. The flowers vary in color from golden yellow to purple-red or even white.
