The variegated shape of this cactaceae has shades or spots in areas where there is a lack of chlorophyll; such stains will never be identical in different plants making each of them unique and for this reason highly sought after by collectors around the world. In its normal form it is a cactus with a spherical shape normally solitary that, with the growth, tends to turn on the base creating new suckers. It has an opaque green-blue stem with prominent tubercles above which are the white and fluffy areoles. From the latter come out its rigid long spines, combed towards the body with colors ranging from gray to pink. In the summer, at the apex of the plant, large pink-white flowers bloom.
