Ferobergia (Variegated)

Ferobergia

Its name indicates the original plants from which it comes, it is in fact a hybrid between the genera Ferocactus and Leuchtenbergia, therefore it is not present in nature. The aesthetic characteristics of this plant change, depending on the initial species: generally, they are small round cacti with the body divided into tubercles, that protrude in a rather accentuated way from the central body. As for the spines, however, they can range a lot, since some species have them long and harmless, similar to the Leuchtenbergia's, while others have robust and hooked spines, like the Ferocactus does. That is why this genus is always different and interesting, never trivial! Here are some easy tips for its proper care and cultivation: This plant requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day. It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures, which should never go below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period. Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn. Suspend completely the watering in winter to allow the plant to enter dormancy. The best soil is a very well-draining soil specific for cacti. They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
