The name of the species was chosen in honor of the South African botanist John Medley Wood. It is a shrub that does not reach great heights and tends to have an upright growth, which expands only with age. It has wide, flat, ovate leaves, of a nice dark green color, covered with a thick white down, which gives it a silvery appearance; at the margins there are small soft teeth, arranged in an irregular way. In midsummer, this silvery appearance is interrupted by showy daisy-like inflorescences of a beautiful bright yellow color.
