Its name was chosen in honor of the 14th century Italian writer Manfredus de Monte Imperiale. This genus is often united to the Agave, for its elongated and pointed leaves, arranged in a rosette, which arise from tuberous roots. In warm periods they bloom with pleasant spikes, constituted by small and very perfumed flowers. They are succulents with an imposing appearance and, above all, with an extraordinary resistance: if the winters are dry, they can stand well temperatures even below zero!
