It takes its name from its characteristic of remaining a miniature plant. It has numerous rosettes, each up to 4 cm in diameter, so narrow and compact, that only the upper half of the leaves can be seen. These leaves are fleshy and elongated, lanceolate, of a glaucous color with reddish-pink margins and a small dark red tip. The whitish pruina, that covers the foliage protects the plant from the sun and helps it to conserve water. Exposed to intense light, it tends to take on pink-purple shades, which make the plant even more beautiful. With growth E. minima tries to expand, creating a compact and mountainous cluster.
