Conophytum ornatum (Succulents)

Miniature succulent, formed by coupled leaves, extremely fleshy and roundish, with strongly flattened apex; the two leaves are completely merged, separated only by an apical fissure, from which bright yellow flowers come out in autumn. The epidermis of C. ornatum is pale greyish-green and opaque, very delicate and uniform. Like all the species belonging to the genus Conophytum, it is amazing to notice its extreme adaptability: in fact, this miniature succulent tends to store remarkable quantities of water in its massive leaves, to be exploited during the drought periods; is also able to reduce its volume and hide in the ground when it is in lack of water supply!
