The name Cheiridopsis comes from Greek and literally means "looking like a sleeve", referring to the peculiarity of this plant: in summer, when the plant goes into vegetative rest, its old and dry leaves create a protective sleeve that wraps around the new foliage to protect it from the hot sun rays! These are small succulents that never reach a large size, but they rather tend to grow horizontally, creating very striking thick green covers. The leaves, which are generally triangular in section and very fleshy, are born in pairs, and it is from the middle of each pair of those that pleasant daisy-like inflorescences with very bright colors bloom, creating an incredible and pleasant contrast between these colors and their small green bodies! Here are some tips for its appropriate care and cultivation: It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations. It is preferable if you keep your Cheiridopsis at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period. Water the plant moderately and wait for the soil to be completely dry before watering again. Once a week in autumn, once a month in winter and once every two months in spring and summer. We recommend as the best soil a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice or lapilli. These are plants that do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute a specific fertilizer with watering once a year, during the vegetative period.
