In its crested form, this asclepiadaceae has some features that make it unique and very sought after by collectors: each crest is different from the others. The name of the genus Caralluma comes from the Arabic and means "flesh wound", probably referring to the unpleasant smell emanated by its flowers, just like the Stapelia’s flowers do .It has fleshy green stems, often shaded on the violaceous, with tubercles ending in barbed tips. It's wonderful flowers, also known as "desert stars", are fleshy, star-shaped and dark colored.
