This cactacee proudly displays a mutation that makes it unique: its monstrous form. The monstrosity consists in some irregularities of the form; asymmetries and/or lack of spines; a mutation that never presents itself identical in different specimens, even of the same species, making each one of them unique and strongly sought by collectors from all over the world. In its normal form this cactus has a globose stem, green and covered by small soft and woolly spines. On its conical tubercles more than one hundred pale yellow spines are formed, which are shaped like a star. It produces numerous flowers arranged in corolla at the apex, usually cream with pink nuances. Also known as "Carmen pincushion cactus"
