This specimen of the fatty plant belonging to the family of Aizoaceae comes from South Africa and grows in arid and semi-desert areas. It has very fleshy leaves, arranged in pairs, with an oval shape. Initially they are united inside a 'capsule' that opens with the growth and the two fleshy leaves come out. The new leaves bloom while the old leaves form a protection against atmospheric agents. The name of the genus comes from the Greek: 'mitro' which means hat, headdress and 'phyllum' which means leaf precisely because of the shape of their leaves. M. grande stands out from the other Microphyllum for its considerable size, hence the name 'grande'. The epidermis is light green and is covered by a pruine that protects it and gives it a 'waxy' appearance. The flowering period in their natural habitat is in summer, after the rainy season; they bloom beautiful flowers of small size of white color.
