Description:

The crested form of this cactacea presents typical fan arrangement with a sinusoidal trend that makes each specimen absolutely unique, never identical to another one and, for that reason, widely appreciated by collectors. Along the arch of the crest there is an eye-catching central line made up of thin red spines that accentuate the wavy pattern of the fan. In its normal form M. cylindrica is a cylindrical cactus that reaches about 12 cm in height, equipped with conical tubercles of a beautiful emerald green, in strong contrast with the numerous central white thorns, almost glassy, extremely thin and aimed at embracing the stem. The central thorns, on the other hand, are much more characteristic, are longer and more rigid, needle-like and of a characteristic reddish-brown color.

Plant care:

It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
