The Sesamothamnus rivae is a pachicaule (a plant with disproportionately large trunk) that grows in well-drained soil with some water and lots of sun. Growth is slow, but in optimal conditions the stem can grow up to 30 centimeters in diameter and reach a height of two to six meters. The flowers take on a color, ranging from white to brownish white and have a reddish throat.
