Pelargonium (Caudex)

Its name derives from Greek and means “stork”, referring to the thin and elongated shape of the fruit, similar to the beak of a stork. Coming from the warm African lands, they were spread to our continent only in the 17th century with their many extremely varied species, from amazing caudex to delightful plants, grown mainly for their flower: some species of Pelargonium, commonly called "Geranium" (although the Geranium is another genus, belonging to this family), have become the main protagonists of our balconies and of almost any flower garden! Particularly appreciated for the simplicity of the care it needs - with very little water and a relatively poor substrate they make abundant blooms. The flowering is characterized by the most varied and lively colors. These plants often have a cascading trend, which makes them perfect for decorating any terrace. Their aesthetic appearance is not the only advantage: these plants are widely used in aromatherapy for their anti-inflammatory and antidepressant properties, often used to treat blisters, acne and, last but not least, the scent of some species is considered a powerful repellent against mosquitoes!
