The unusual name of this genre was chosen in reference to Caliban - the antagonist monster present in Shakespeare's "The Tempest". It includes only two species, characterized by large tuberous roots that are recommended initially to be kept underground, and then exposed out of the ground to form a suggestive caudex that reaches considerable dimensions. This woody tuber, useful for the plant to store water to be exploited during drought periods, has irregular shapes that are extremely popular among green collectors, as you will never find an identical plant. The leaves emerge directly from the caudex, they are very thin, flexible and reach up to even 1 meter in length: their arrangement creates a truly suggestive and extremely ornamental cascade effect!
