Adenia kirkii (Caudex)

The name of the species was chosen in honour of the English botanist Thomas Kirk. It is a very particular plant, very appreciated for its corteccious caudex, rough and globose-like, which in nature can exceed even 30 cm of diameter! The tuber is never exactly symmetrical, which is why each plant will be truly unique. Beside giving the plant a remarkable ornamental character, the caudex allows A. kirkii to survive long periods of drought by serving as a water reserve. In the vegetative period grow long and thin twisted branches that, with their lengths of more than 3 metres, create a tangle at the apex of the caudex together with the lanceolate leaves with a webbed look. In spring, in the middle of the thick vegetation, delicate, graceful and pleasant light yellow flowers bloom.
