Tephrocactus alexanderi (Cactus)

The name of the Genus Tephrocactus derives from Greek 'tephra' - 'ash', referring to the grayish hues of its epidermis.  In Spanish language T. alexanderi is called 'Bola de Indio' - 'Indian Ball'. It is a cactus with a globular or ovoid, grayish-green stem that branches easily and creates bushes up to 50 cm tall. Its many spines are long, straight or slightly curved downwards, varying in color from cream to dark gray. When it blooms it gives you beautiful large white or light pink flowers. You have to be very careful when moving or transplanting the plant, because its segments are easily detached.
