Often considered synonymous with Sulcorebutia hertusii, however this variety actually differs from the other one mainly due to its more yellowish, long and intertwined spines. Its flowers are cherry red or dark magenta and are born at the base of the cactus. The crested form has shorter and hairier spines and is difficult to be found in nature, generally found only as a graft and is highly prized by green collectors.
