Pyrrhocactus saxifragus (Cactus)

Pleasant cactacea with a globular shape, slightly depressed at the apex but tending to become slightly cylindrical with growth. It has a stem of a brilliant emerald green, meticulously sculpted by longitudinal asymmetrical and strongly tuberculated ribs. Sparse whitish areoles protrude along the ribs, elongated and narrow, adorned with sturdy and slightly curved thorns that take on blackish tones at a young age, and then fade to a pinstripe white when the plant reaches maturity. This cactus is particularly sought after not only for its rarity, but also for its inflorescence, characterized by large, lively and fragrant flowers that contrast nicely with the solemn and ferocious appearance of the plant!
