Pterocactus tuberosus f.monstrous (Cactus)

This species is distinguished from the base species by its monstrous shape. Usually, there may be differences related to the size and the structure of the plant as the colour or the appearance, in this case, the monstrous shows different stems side by side to the others and small whitish protuberances above these. In general, it is a geophyte cactus (perennial plant that spends the unfavorable season in the form of underground buds from which, every year, it becomes vegetative reform). This it is normal that during the vegetative rest the plant halves of volume. Pterocactus tuberosus is characterized by the enormous tuberous roots underground, with thin stems, frail from the pale blue to the brownish violet that detach easily and covered by tiny thorns. It blooms in the summer and the color of the flowers, which grow on the apices of the plant, vary from pale yellow to intense yellow. It is a plant of difficult cultivation (it grows quickly during the good season and once the stems become long, they tend to become soft and break).
