It is a forest green cactus from Chuquisaca, Bolivia, where it was first discovered in 1905 by the collector Friedrich Ritter, hence the field number FR731. As the other Parodias, also this one has two different spines in its white downy areoles: the radial spines are white and straight, while the central ones have a classic hooked shape. However, these last ones differ from the other Parodia’s spines, because they are longer and more accentuated, and they get darker, as they approach the apex, where they are completely black. This species has flowers of a particular shade, ranging from yellow-orange in the throat, up to a bright red color at the ends.
