This globe-shaped cactus, native to Bolivia, has a green stem with protruding tubercles. Above the tubercles it has fluffy areolas from which numerous radial spines and also some central spine emerge. The first ones, arranged like a ray, are yellowish with red tips; the central ones, on the contrary, are usually 1-2 of number, more robust and darker. The spines are curved towards the stem, the central ones are also hooked. Its beautiful flowers bloom at the apex of the stem and can be red or yellow-orange.
