This cactus exemplar grows in rocky areas of the Santa Cruz valley in Bolivia, accustomed to a humid climate. It has a globose stem that can become cylindrical with the passage of time; it is green with ribs and numerous tubercles. From the fluffy areolas come out its radial and central spines: the first ones are yellow and completely cover the stem ; while the central spines are longer and more robust of brown or brownish colour. Its flowers bloom at the apex of the stem and are orange.
