This species is made particular above all by its variegation; the variation of colour of the plant, in fact, is due to the absence of chlorophyll in the epidermis. Neoporteria nigrispina is a cylindrical cactus, with a very dark green stem covered entirely by black thorns, robust, long and needle-like. On the stem are also present various regular ribs. The areoles of this cactus are white and woolly. The flowering period is late winter-spring, when we can observe its small and beautiful flowers whose bright colors attract a lot of attention. The petals have a fuchsia nuance at the apices and at the base are whitish/yellowish. Synonym : Eriosyce subgibbosa Subs. nigri horrida.
