N. nigrispina is a cylindrical cactus, with a very dark green stem covered entirely with black, robust, long and needle-shaped thorns. There are also several regular ribs on the stem. The areoles of this cactus are white and woolly. Its flowering period is late winter-spring during which we can observe its beautiful small flowers with bright colors that attract a lot of attention. In fact, the petals have a fuchsia nuance at the apices and at the base are whitish/yellowish. Synonym : Eriosyce subgibbosa Subs. nigrihorrida.
